Large defense firms taking on major government projects needed subcontractors who could handle the administrative demands of federal work. “That’s something HX5 did very early on rather than buying big fancy furniture or offices or anything like that,” Howard explained. “It was more important for us that we invest in things like a high-end accounting system that was built and developed specifically for companies who work with the government, and was government reviewed and approved.”

The philosophy behind that investment shaped how HX5 approached every subsequent decision about resource allocation. Capital went toward capabilities that created performance, not appearances that performed credibility without delivering it.
